Improving Connectivity in High Density Areas
With DAS or Small Cell:
Powering DAS and Small Cell Networks
The explosive growth in wireless data usage has placed capacity burdens on traditional large (macro) cell site capacity. Every cell phone is competing for bandwidth leading to spectrum congestion and poor quality of service.
With the increase of subscribers and the data-intensive applications they use, facilities must provide on-demand service and capacity. With high quality cellular service so widely available, customers expect it and facilities must provide it to enhance the user-experience.
A Distributed Antennae System or Small Cell System can be the solution, delivering high capacity power to support tens of thousands of users quickly, easily and cost-effectively.
Ideal Applications for Small Cell and DAS
- High Density Office Buildings
- Parking Garages
- Stadiums and Arenas
- Convention Facilities
- Resorts and Casinos
- Transportation Hubs
- Malls and Retail Spaces
- Colleges and Universities
- Emerging Markets that may not have a macro towers
A DAS uses a clustered installation of antennas to boost cellular network coverage in areas with weak or no signals or in areas with concentrated demand that would otherwise overwhelm existing network coverage. A DAS installation consists of a network of separately installed antenna nodes that are connected to a common source through fiber or coaxial cable.
Small Cell uses individual power supplies in each node. Small Cell systems were designed to deliver coverage and capacity over a relatively small area, similar to a Wi-Fi access point. Adding more coverage requires installing more nodes.
Both DAS and Small Cell can be used indoors and outdoors and are small and compact with minimal visual impact. Their size and power requirements work well in areas where traditional cell towers cannot be placed due to zoning restrictions.
DAS offers scalable multiple frequencies (2G, 3G, 4G, LTE, VHF Bands), which means it can be a neutral-host provider that can work with either multiple carriers or used by a single carrier. Small Cell offers a single frequency for a specific service provider. Small cell offers a solution with fast deployment and low up-front costs.
Whether you use a DAS or Small Cell System, to meet consumers’ service expectations, these systems need to perform, even during power outages, therefore uninterrupted power supply is critical.
Our line of power systems for Small Cell and DAS are designed to remotely power network equipment over existing lines deployed between head end and remote antennas and offer several benefits:
- Power distribution with centralized battery back-up
- Compact, cost-efficient footprint
- High efficiency rectifiers
- Remotely monitor and control rectifiers, batteries, and distribution.
Our complete portfolio of turn-key solutions to power DAS and Small Cell applications ensures a solid power foundation, giving you reliable network service that is safe and easy to install.
In-Stock Options for Small DC Power Plants
Power Solutions has some of the more popular Small DC power plants in-stock and ready to ship. Standard configurations of the GE Slimline SPS 48V and the GE CPS6000 cabinet power systems are ready to ship and include the shelf, rectifier, batteries and breakers.
