This issue highlights: Double Conversion Online UPS and Liebert External Bypass Switch
For Critical Loads, a Double Conversion
Online UPS is the Best Choice
Recent years have seen an increase in the need for network connectivity. As critical applications and servers move to the cloud, co-locations or centralized data centers, staying connected is imperative to maintaining normal business operations.
Customers that require the most reliable power protection for the on-premise equipment and networking gear should be using double conversion online UPS. Only double conversion online UPS equipment includes an internal bypass that recognizes when there is a problem with the UPS or battery and will switch the load over to street power until it can be repaired.
Standby power and line interactive UPS equipment does not include this feature, making your critical equipment more vulnerable to failure. If the battery in a line interactive UPS fails, the UPS will drop the load completely. This distinction is particularly important for remote network closets where personnel can’t immediately access the UPS.
The major UPS manufacturers have responded to this increased need for smaller single-phase double conversion online UPSs with product lines such as the Eaton 9PX and the APC Smart-UPS Online tailored specifically to power protection for network equipment.

Simplify UPS Maintenance with an External Bypass Switch
Connecting your smaller single-phase UPS to an external maintenance bypass makes UPS maintenance safer and less disruptive. Instead of taking down the load for simple maintenance tasks such as battery replacement, with an external maintenance bypass such as the Liebert MicroPOD Maintenance Bypass you can switch the load to utility power and take the UPS offline. Once maintenance is complete, simply switch the bypass back over to UPS and your load is once again fully protected with UPS back-up.
The Liebert MicroPOD is compatible with any manufacturer’s UPS and is available with a variety of output receptacles to accommodate a UPS up to 3000VA. For more information call us 800-876-9373 X711 or email.
