This issue highlights: Rising lead prices are leading to increasing battery prices
The Price of Lead is on the Rise with More Predicted to Come:
Now is the time to have your batteries replaced
If you have a battery replacement coming due, or one that you have been putting off, it’s time to lock in the price of the batteries before new increases go into effect April 1st.
The cost of value-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries is based on the price of lead. Late in 2016, the price of lead started to climb. The pricing gained momentum and recently rose 7% in just four days*. Experts cite all sorts of reasons, but the most telling statement has been that this sudden rise is a market correction after over a year of artificially low pricing. If that’s true, there are more increases to come.
All the major battery manufacturers have responded with price increases the first two months of this year and more are coming April 1st. If you have a pending battery purchase or battery replacement, now is the time to lock in the best pricing before more increases take effect in Q2 of this year.
As of April 1st, expect a price increase on the following battery types:
- Modular UPS batteries
- Standard VRLA UPS and Telecom batteries
- Pure Lead Telecom batteries
- Flooded lead acid batteries
The price increases coming are significant. Schneider Electric announced yesterday that their modular battery pricing is going up 10%. This is your official notification of the April 1st price increase.
Lead is traded as a commodity, so there is no way to know where prices will be in the coming months. However, market analysts have been encouraging investors to hedge lead, which means they predict the increases will continue for at least the immediate future. It’s time to get that 2017 battery replacement completed.
