APC Smart-UPS On-Line SRTD: The Multi-Chemistry Smart-UPS

The APC Smart-UPS On-Line SRTD series is the first model in Schneider Electric’s next generation of Smart-UPS, and what Schneider calls the industry’s first monolithic multi-chemistry UPS for distributed IT and edge environments. The same UPS runs on VRLA or lithium-ion batteries and is designed to accept future battery chemistries, so you can change battery technology without replacing the UPS.

Start with VRLA to keep upfront cost low, then move to lithium-ion when it fits your budget or lifecycle plans, in the same chassis. The SRTD series launches at 2.2kVA and 3kVA in a 2U rack/tower design for servers and networking equipment in IT rooms, medical facilities, and light industrial sites. VRLA or Lithium-Ion?

VRLA has the lower upfront cost. Lithium-ion lasts longer, weighs less, and typically has a lower total cost of ownership over the life of the UPS. With the SRTD, you don’t have to decide on day one. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I switch from VRLA to lithium-ion later?

A: Yes. The SRTD is designed to run on VRLA, lithium-ion, or future battery chemistries in the same chassis, as Schneider Electric releases compatible batteries. When you switch, replace all of the batteries at once; VRLA and lithium-ion batteries should not be installed together in the same UPS. Contact us for current lithium-ion battery availability.

Q: How much runtime do I get, and how do I extend it?

A: On the internal battery, the 2.2kVA models run 9 minutes at full load and 22 minutes at half load; the 3kVA models run 4 minutes at full load and 12.5 minutes at half load. For longer runtime, add up to 10 SRTDBP3KR2-LA external battery packs, which the UPS recognizes automatically. Contact us for a runtime estimate for your equipment.

Q: What is the difference between the models?

A: The 2.2kVA models are rated at 2200VA/1800W and the 3kVA models at 3000VA/2700W. Models ending in “N-LA” include embedded network management and 11 outlets; the standard models have a SmartSlot for an optional network management card and 9 outlets.
