BAA Compliant UPS Products from Schneider Electric

BAA Compliant UPS Products from Schneider Electric: Ensuring Reliability, Compliance, and Cost Savings in Critical Power Protection

BAA-Compliant UPS Products from Schneider ElectricThe Buy American Act (BAA), enacted in 1933, mandates that products purchased by the U.S. federal government must be manufactured domestically to the greatest extent possible, fostering economic growth and national security. In the realm of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), BAA compliance is paramount for government agencies, educational institutions, and state/local entities (SLED) procuring power protection solutions. Schneider Electric, through its APC brand, has long been a leader in delivering BAA-compliant UPS systems that safeguard mission-critical infrastructure against power disruptions. These products meet stringent domestic content requirements—typically 55% U.S.-manufactured components—while offering high efficiency, scalability, and integration with modern IT environments.

The Buy American Act (BAA) encourages the federal government to buy U.S.-made products, supporting domestic manufacturing and American workers. For federal agencies, schools, and state and local organizations buying under BAA requirements, APC by Schneider Electric offers a line of U.S.-made Smart-UPS On-Line UPS systems that are both BAA and TAA compliant.

BAA vs. TAA

The two requirements are often confused. The BAA gives preference to products made in the United States. The Trade Agreements Act (TAA) requires products sold to federal agencies to be made or substantially transformed in the U.S. or in a designated country that has a trade agreement with the U.S. Which requirement applies depends on the contract, so check your solicitation. APC’s BAA models are also TAA compliant, so they meet either requirement.

The BAA-Compliant Smart-UPS On-Line Lineup

Schneider Electric’s BAA portfolio is the Smart-UPS On-Line Essential Series: 208V double-conversion online UPS systems for data networks, voice networks, industrial applications, and medical and lab equipment. Double-conversion topology means zero transfer time to battery and continuous power conditioning for applications with demanding power conditions. BAA models are identified by the “-A” suffix. Standard models without it are not BAA compliant, so confirm the full part number when ordering.

All five models use VRLA batteries. The 5 kVA models use a NEMA L6-30P input plug; the 6, 8, and 10 kVA models are hardwired. Runtimes shown are with the internal batteries. If your application needs longer runtime, contact us to discuss options that keep your purchase compliant.

Need Lithium-Ion?

Schneider Electric’s lithium-ion Smart-UPS models are TAA compliant but not BAA compliant. For TAA procurements, the Smart-UPS Lithium-Ion line-interactive models (500 VA to 3 kVA) are available now, and TAA versions of the Smart-UPS Ultra On-Line (2.2 to 5 kVA) are expected in 2027. Lithium-ion offers longer battery life and a smaller, lighter footprint; see our guide, Lithium-Ion UPS Batteries: A Complete Guide to TCO, Safety, and Making the Right Choice for Your Infrastructure.
